Boh, per il resto sembra tutto a posto, tranne quel maledetto file rfl, che non avevo mai visto prima d'ora.

I have the same problem, same error about
dragon.rfl. It crashes immediately after selecting the difficulty level when starting a new game. I also have a
BFG Geforce 6800GT. Windows XP Pro SP2. I strongly suspect Service Pack 2 on this one because
I've run the game just fine on XP with both ATI and Nvida cards before (but not this 6800GT).
Bad news. It's not Windows XP Service Pack 2 because the game still runs fine on my Pentium 4, Radeon 9800 Pro, SIS chipset, system with XP Pro and SP2.
Now my bet is it's something with the newer Nvidia cards, or the infinitely buggy nForce 2 chipset. I went as far as to install Windows 2000 Pro SP4 on my AMD XP2700, Geforce 6800GT, nForce 2 chipset sytem and it crashed instantly to desktop in the same way
I have no idea what is causing this new game crash, but here is a cheap work around.
1. Hold SHIFT while starting the game.
2. When the Option Panel comes up, enable Developer Mode.
3. Start the game and load "The Ruined Village" level. If memory serves me correctly, that was the first one. The intro movie will even play.
4. As soon as you have control of Rynn, make a save/quick save.
5. Repeat step 1 and 2 only this time uncheck the Developer Mode boxes, and load your save once the game is running. This worked for me, but I have no idea what difficulty it is set at now or if it will die again loading the next level, but at least I can play.
What an incredibly stubborn and bugged out game! Always has been too.
