The X-Files: The Game (pronto da giocare, in italiano, portable)

Ciao a tutti, visto che si tratta di un gioco un po' ostico per i sistemi moderni ho pensato di condividere questa versione su "DOSBox SVN-Daum - Windows 95" scaricata dal sito "The Collection Chamber" e da me modificata. Avrei potuto installare da zero un Windows 95 su una versione di DOSBox che emuli meglio Windows 95, o magari su emulatori migliori come PCem, ma onestamente non ne avevo voglia e mi sono limitato a perfezionare la suddetta.

Migliorie rispetto alla versione originale

• Sostituita l'immagine dell'HDD di gioco con una nuova su cui ho copiato i files localizzati in italiano;
• Ottimizzata l'immagine dell'HDD di gioco su cui sono stati copiati solo i files necessari all'avvio, circa 300MB in meno dell'originale su cui erano stati copiati tutti i files del CD 1, compresi quelli di installazione;
• Sostituite le immagini dei 6 CD con quelle localizzate in italiano (l'HDD di gioco funziona come primo disco);
• Esecuzione in full screen con correzione delle proporzioni;
• Piccole correzioni apportate nel file dosbox.conf;
• Avvio del gioco all'avvio del sistema e spegnimento del sistema all'uscita dal gioco tramite "PACT Shutdown";
• Sostituzione della shell di Windows impostata in system.ini, da Explorer.exe all'eseguibile di  "PACT Shutdown", in modo da nascondere totalmente Windows e farlo sembrare un gioco a se stante;
• Sostituzioni delle immagini di avvio e spegnimento di Windows con una schermata nera, per la stessa ragione del punto precedente.

Purtroppo l'emulatore non si chiude da solo perché la versione di DOSBox e l'installazione di Windows in uso non supportano l'ACPI, quindi ho lasciato intatta la scritta finale che invita a premere i tasti CTRL-F9 per spegnere il sistema. Come già detto non avevo voglia di reinstallare tutto su un sistema differente, comunque la soluzione è più che accettabile.

Testato su Windows 11 e funziona perfettamente. Ottimo lavoro per chi come me è poco pratico in ambiente DOS e macchine virtuali, soprattutto se si tratta di installare più CD. Grazie cnterr sarebbe bello fare lo stesso lavoro con altri giochi simili tipo Phantasmagoria ecc

Phantasmagoria si emula perfettamente tramite ScummVM, a parte questo sto portando avanti un progetto ambizioso, una raccolta di avventure grafiche (ove disponibili in italiano) emulate nei modi più disparati, ScummVM, DOSBox, DOSBox-X, WinUAE, Vice64, Wrapper di vario tipo e infine avvio diretto da Windows per i giochi che lo supportano, tutto portable senza necessità di installare nulla. Purtroppo non potrò condividerlo, al massimo in PM, perché ci sono parecchi titoli moderni atualmente in vendita su Steam e GOG.

Per ora ho "sistemato" i titoli qui di seguito creando un batch di avvio per ogni gioco, al termine vorrei configurarne l'avvio con LaunchBox:
